Our highly trained dental assistants have more than 160 years of combined pediatric experience. They continue to pursue continuing education. They always strive to make each child feel welcome and comfortable in a dental setting.
Jeffrey A. Dean, DDS, MSD
Dr. Jeffrey Dean has been in private practice for over 25 years, and has been a faculty member at the IU School of Dentistry for over 20 years. He is the Ralph E. McDonald Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and a Professor of Orthodontics at the Indiana University School of Dentistry and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. He received his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Purdue University (1979) and his master's and doctoral degrees in dentistry, as well as his specialty certificates in pediatric dentistry (1985) and orthodontics (1996) from Indiana University. Jeff is board certified by both the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a Past President of both the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the College of Diplomates of the ABPD. Dr. Dean is currently the Executive Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Jeff has also had the pleasure of serving with Drs. Ralph McDonald and David Avery as the coeditor of a comprehensive textbook of pediatric dentistry titled, Dentistry for the Child and Adolescent. The text is popular throughout the world, has been published in six languages and is currently in its 9th edition. Jeff is married to Barbara, has three children, two "children-in-laws" and 5 grandchildren and enjoys running, boating on Eagle Creek Reservoir, and golfing.
Janet C. Clark, DDS
Dr. Janet Clark has been in private practice since 1987. She graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1985 where she was honored with the ASDC Award for Proficiency in Dentistry for Children. She completed a two year residency program at Riley Children's Hospital in 1987 and received her specialty certificate in Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Clark is board certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Janet grew up in a medical family. Her father is a retired physician, both her brothers are physicians, and her sister is a pediatric dentist and a Navy Admiral. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Indiana Dental Association, the Indiana Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Indianapolis District Dental Society where she served on the Board of Directors. She has also served as a delegate to the Indiana Dental Association. Dr. Clark has volunteered for Christina's Smile Program for underprivileged children, Give Kids a Smile Program, and was Chairman of the Children's Dental Health Month in Indianapolis. She has been a national speaker for the American Orthodontic Society and has lectured on Early Orthodontic Treatment.
Janet has a true passion for education. She served on the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School Board of Trustees for seven years and was the Board Chair 2006-2009. She has attended numerous continuing education classes and workshops. Dr. Clark was inducted into the International College of Dentists in 2008.
She is married to J. Murray Clark and they have four children.
Dr. James E. Jones, DMD. MSD, EdD, PhD
Dr. James E. Jones attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Zoology. He attended the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and received the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. He completed a Residency in Pediatric Dentistry at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children at Indianapolis, Indiana. He received a Certificate of Specialty in Pediatric Dentistry rom the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He has been in full-time dental education, maintaining an active private practice in Pediatric Dentistry in Indiana, Massachusetts and Tennessee.
He has completed a United Cerebral Palsy Clinical Dental Fellowship as well as a Dental Faculty Fellowship sponsored by the American Fund for Dental Health. Additionally he served as a Robert Wood Johnson Dental Health Services Research Fellow at Harvard University. He received a Certificate in Dental Health Services Research from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. From 1989 through 1993 he was Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. During his tenure at the University of Tennessee, he was also Director of Extramural Programs for the College of Dentistry as well as Director of the University of Tennessee Craniofacial Anomalies Team. In 1993, he received the Ed.D. degree from the Indiana University Graduate School of Education.
From August 1993 to August 2005, he was Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Professor of Dental Education, Chairman and Director of Dental Education at Indiana University Purdue University, Fort Wayne (IPFW) and Director of the IPFW Health Sciences Research Institute. During the 2000-2001 academic year, Dr. Jones served as a Congressional Fellow in the 107th Congress with the senior Senator from Indiana, Senator Richard Lugar. In 2003 he received the PhD, degree in Biological Sciences from Empresarial University. He is presently Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Jane Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University School of Dentistry. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.
Dr. Jones has been married 35 years to his wife Sherry. Sherry taught Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, at the High School level. She retired from teaching at the end of 2005 academic year. They have two daughters; Lauren Elizabeth Jones, MD is a resident in Pediatrics at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. Katherine Blair Jones is a dental student at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.
